چکیده

Open canal dynamics in which a constant water level is kept at the bottom end of each canal pools by the upstream control structure of the pool are characterized by a time-varying delay associated with water transport. Predictive control, based on the output prediction over a long time horizon and the minimization of a quadratic cost function is slightly sensitive to the magnitude and variation of the delay. The predictive control performance is tested on the lateral canal MW of the Maricopa Stanfield Irrigation and Drainage District. The simulation results illustrate the capacity of predictive control to improve canal operation.

Performance Evaluation of Two Strategies of “Lining” and “Automated Operation” in Reducing the Water Conveyance and Distribution Losses within the Main Canals, Case Study of Moghan Main Canal

Seepage losses and poor operational activities are the two main source of water losses throughout the agricultural water conveyance and distribution systems in irrigation districts. This study aims to investigate the performances of two strategies of “canal lining” and employing the “Canal Automation” in order to reduce the losses mentioned above. The investigation was carried out on a couple o...

Coordinated model predictive reach control for irrigation canals

Irrigation canals are large-scale systems, covering vast geographical areas, and consisting of many interconnected canal reaches that interact with control structures such as pumps and gates. The control of such irrigation canals is usually done in a manual way, in which a human operator travels along the irrigation canal to adjust the settings of the gates and pumps in order to obtain a desire...

Developing A New Operation-Economic Framework for Irrigation Networks without Water Market

This study focused on proposing a new operational perspective within main and lateral irrigation canals based on the economic value of water. To achieve this objective, the operation-economic framework offered in this study consisted of two main components of the PMP model and Operation model. The estimated economic values of water in different regions of the network were employed as the starti...

Predictive control of irrigation canals – robust design and real-time implementation

Predictive control is one of the most commonly used control methods in a variety of application areas, including hydraulic processes such as water distribution canals for irrigation. This article presents the design and application of predictive control for the water discharge entering into an irrigation canal located in Spain. First, a discrete time linear model of the process is described and...

Distributed model predictive control for irrigation canals DISTRIBUTED MODEL PREDICTIVE CONTROL OF IRRIGATION CANALS

Irrigation canals are large-scale systems, consisting of many interacting components, and spanning vast geographical areas. For safe and efficient operation of these canals, maintaining the levels of the water flows close to prespecified reference values is crucial, both under normal operating conditions as well as in extreme situations. Irrigation canals are equipped with local controllers, to...
